Project Brief

M&C Engineering offers services in mechanical, electrical, hydraulics and civil engineering throughout the construction and utility sectors. They were established in 1985 and have worked closely with Taydal for the last few years. They have been overseeing new refurbishments to the Sewage Treatment Plant for Anglian Water, based in Felsted, Essex.

The work they have provided here includes surfacing works to the main entry roads, as well as roads and footpaths around the site. Thankfully, because of our business relationship with M& C, we were considered for carrying out this surfacing work, and won the opportunity to install the surfacing required throughout this site.

The first instalment within this site, and the long list of ongoing work, was to install 2 areas of a new road surface based around the plant. Area 1 was approximately 120 square meters, based at the rear of the plant. The material used for this area was 100mm of base course, topped with 50mm SMA wearing course.

The second area was approximately 225 square meters and required planing out before we could lay. Because we planed this area prior to laying the material required, we laid geotextile membrane to ensure nothing could break through the surface. On top of the geotextile membrane, we proceeded to lay 50mm of SMA wearing course over the full area.

For this install, we were on site for approximately 3 days. Due to our time on here being limited to their opening hours to ensure our teams could be fully supervised by health and safety operatives on behalf of Anglian Water. Due to this, our team had to work hard and ensure this work was completed within the dedicated time we had assigned to this job.
