Project Brief

RAF Shawbury, based in Shrewsbury, provides world class training to around 900 personnel a year for the UK Armed Forces. It is the no1 flight training school within the uk, training helicopter aircrews as well as Air traffic controllers and more. Taydal had a recent opportunity to work within their sight to install new surfacing around their Duke of Cambridge building.

Our friends at Ace Resin gave us this opportunity, asking us to install 70mm of AC20 as well as 70mm of AC14. This would be installed over an area of 347 square meters, to create a new entrance for the Duke of Cambridge building. Prio to our arrival, Ace Resin were on site and removed the block paving that was originally in this area and correcting the base ready for asphalt.

Our team were on site one day, but to our surprise the day we arrived on site, we were greeted with snow! Now, as beautiful as snow is, it does make laying Asphalt significantly harder due to the temperature. So, our team had to warm the ground prior to installing the asphalt, to ensure it didn’t cure quickly. Thankfully, our teams are well trained for the adverse weather and completed this install without any issues.
