Geotextile, 50mm DBM base course, 40mm SMA wearing course
Power Testing Limited are leading specialists in electrical engineering and maintenance of LV & HV power systems, based in Chelmsford, Essex. With 50 years of experience, they are trusted within the global blue-chip organisations. They recently contacted our friends at Deacon Demolition and Groundworks, who are a construction company based in Essex, regarding some surfacing works at their depot in Chelmsford. The carpark area around their depot was looking worse for wear and needed some TLC, which meant Deacon Demolition contacted Taydal for our assistance in this.
Taydal were asked to complete two areas, area one was based at the rear of Power Testing Ltd.’s depot. In this area the ground required planing out and prepping with geotextile membrane. It was then completed with a 40mm SMA wearing course. This area was approximately 700 square meters and was completed within a single day. Our friends at Steve Lumley Planing were there to help us with planing the area, ready for the material to be laid.
Area two was based at the front of their depot and involved repairing their entrance and another carpark area. This was a smaller area of 270 square meters, which did not require being planed. However, it did require a base course to be laid, in certain areas. The base course laid was a 60mm DBM base course, followed by a 40mm SMA wearing course to blend into the area one. Both areas were completed within 2 days on site.
Due to this being a privately owned building, there were little disruptions to our work. We were able to complete our installation with ease around the running of the business. As the areas we were installing were already permanently fenced off from other buildings and pedestrians, we were able to complete this without the use of barriers or traffic management. This meant it was an easy short job for our teams, as we did not have to place or wait to secure the area.
