ABP Charity Bike Ride 2024

Associated British Ports are the UK’s leading and largest ports group, they provide essential gateways for trade, enabling green infrastructure essentials for the UK’s energy transition. They handle more than a quarter of all ports as well as providing support for over half of the UK’s offshore wind investments.

Taydal have been working alongside Associated British Ports at Ipswich Marina for over 10 years now, with one of our teams based on the docks permanently, for their civil engineering and asphalt work. As we have a team based within the Port of Ipswich, we regularly try to get involved with any events that Associated British Ports may plan.

In recent years, Associated British Ports have planned and produced a charity bike ride, and each year we are asked if we would like to sponsor this event. We accept without hesitation each year, happy to show our support towards Associated British Ports.

This year the charity bike ride was in honour of Ipswich Town Foundation. This brilliant charity works independently to engage, inspire, and develop our local community through various sporting initiatives. From Powerchair Football to dementia-friendly cafés, and activities for school children, every penny raised stays in Suffolk.

The bike ride has three different variations, occupants who choose to join are encouraged to choose whichever route they are comfortable with. All of these scenic routes contain some of the most beautiful views East Anglia has to offer, including some beautiful views of our glorious coast lines.

Option 1: Ipswich to Lowestoft and return. This route equals a whopping 111 miles.

Option 2: Ipswich to Lowestoft. This route equals 62 miles.

Option 3: Lowestoft to Ipswich. This route is the shortest of the 3 at 49 miles.

This bike ride took place on August 30th, leaving from Old Custom House in Ipswich, and we were there to capture the moment! It was incredible to see how many people were involved, and congratulations are offered to anyone who took part. These volunteers raised a whopping £5,200 in aid of Ipswich Town Foundation, which is double the amount aimed Associated British Ports aimed for!
